San Joaquin Valley Air District Charge Up! Program

Application PROCESS

1. Confirm Eligibility

• Applicant must be a business, public agency, nonprofit, or MUD (multi-unit dwelling) located in:

  San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare, or the valley portion of Kern County.

• Site must not be residential-only.

• Project must involve new Level 2 or Level 3 chargers (not yet purchased or installed).

2. Complete the Application

• Submit application at: valleyair.org/chargeup

• Include:

  • Project location and charger type (Level 2 or Level 3)

  • Number of ports

  • Installer and EVITP certification form (if applicable)

  • Site plan and photos (if requested)

  • Disclosure of other funding sources (if any)

3. Wait for Voucher Approval

• ⚠️ Do not purchase or install any chargers before receiving an official voucher.
• The voucher will include the maximum funding amount and project expiration date (1 year from approval).

4. Purchase & Install the Chargers

• Install chargers using a licensed contractor. EVITP-certified electricians required for most projects.

• Installation must comply with:

  • Local/state/federal codes

  • ADA, MUTCD signage, and directional signs

  • At least 1 marked parking stall per charger

• Must complete installation within 1 year of voucher execution.

5. Submit Reimbursement Package

After installation, submit proof of project completion:

• Final invoice(s) for charger + installation

• Proof of payment

• Site photos showing installed chargers and signage

• If public access: register charger location at:

  • AFDC Station Locator

  • Optional: PlugShare

• W-9 and any other requested documentation

6. Receive Reimbursement

• Reimbursement is processed by SJVAPCD after all documents are reviewed and approved.

• ⚠️ Typical processing time: 30–60 days after approval of the reimbursement request.
